Orihuela Costa is a great base for exploring more of the Costa Blanca, Costa Cálida and the surrounding area. If you have a car and want to spend a day away from the beach, there are plenty of interesting places to discover — from historic cities and mountain villages to islands, nature reserves and different coastal landscapes. Here are some of the places we think are worth visiting while staying in Orihuela Costa.
Cartagena
A city full of history, with Roman heritage, an impressive port and a beautiful old town. Cartagena is a great choice for a day trip if you enjoy history, architecture and Spanish culture.
Murcia
Head inland to discover Murcia, a lively Spanish city with beautiful squares, historic buildings, great food and a very different atmosphere from the coast.
Alicante
Alicante combines the city, the sea and history. Visit Santa Bárbara Castle, walk through the old town, enjoy the marina or simply spend some time by the beach.
Elche
Elche is famous for its enormous palm grove and offers a completely different experience from the coastal resorts. It is a great place to explore nature, history and local culture.
Orihuela

Tabarca Island
Take a boat to Tabarca for a day surrounded by the sea. Walk around the island, swim, snorkel, enjoy lunch and take a break from the mainland.
La Manga & Mar Menor
La Manga is one of the most unusual coastal landscapes in the area, with the Mediterranean Sea on one side and the Mar Menor on the other. It is worth visiting for the beaches, views and relaxed atmosphere.
