San Javier Air Show

Once a year, the sky above the Mar Menor becomes the main attraction.

The San Javier Air Show brings aircraft, pilots and thousands of spectators to the coast for one of the most spectacular aviation events in the region. With the sea as a backdrop and the aircraft flying directly over Santiago de la Ribera, it is an experience that is difficult to forget.

And from Orihuela Costa, it is close enough to make a great day trip.

A Show Over the Mar Menor

The main event takes place above the beaches of Santiago de la Ribera, with spectators watching from the promenade and the beachfront.

Aircraft perform aerobatic manoeuvres, formations and demonstrations directly over the Mar Menor, creating a very different kind of coastal experience.

The location is a big part of what makes the event special.

You can spend the morning by the sea, find a place along the promenade and then watch the sky come alive as the show begins.

More Than an Air Show

The weekend is about more than the main display.

Recent editions have included live music, pilot appearances, family activities, aviation simulators, drones and other attractions around Santiago de la Ribera.

There have also been aircraft displayed along the seafront, giving visitors the chance to see some of the machines up close before the flying begins.

The festival has also become part of San Javier’s long connection with aviation. The municipality is home to the Academia General del Aire, and the area’s history has been closely linked to military aviation for decades.

Find Your Spot by the Sea

One of the best things about the San Javier Air Show is that you don’t need to be inside a stadium or special venue to enjoy it.

The beaches and promenade of Santiago de la Ribera become the natural viewing area, with the Mar Menor providing an incredible backdrop.

The official festival website recommends arriving early and finding a good viewing position, as the best spots can fill quickly. It also advises visitors to bring water, sun protection and, especially for children, hearing protection because some aircraft can be very loud.

And don’t forget your camera.

When Is the San Javier Air Show?

The festival takes place in spring, with the exact dates announced for each edition.

In 2026, the event took place from 1–3 May, with the main air display on Sunday and a special sunset exhibition on Saturday evening.

The programme and participating aircraft can change each year, so check the latest information before planning your visit.

If you are staying on the Costa Blanca or around Orihuela Costa when the Air Show is on, it is definitely worth looking up at the sky.
